A toy by any other name would feel as sweet; The many materials of sex toys- by Carly

posted: August 24th, 2010

Since the dawn of man, sex has been a pleasurable experience. Viewed as not

only a means for procreation, but also as a healthy stress reliever and a passionate

expression of love.  The invention of sexual toys for women opened a door of sexual

freedom for women everywhere.  Being only second to the invention of birth control pills,

vibrators and dildos allow women to experiment safely and confidently.  Many people,

men in particular, state that there are more sex toys for women then for men, why is that?

It is my opinion that the answer to this question revolves around the anatomy

of human beings.  Take men for example; there sexual organ is on the outside of their

body, easy to reach, easy to play with.  Women, on the other hand, have a vaginal canal

and a clitoris; the two important sexual areas are not very close together.  Some women

cannot achieve an orgasm without clitoral stimulation, and if you are aware of the

basic act of hetero sexual sex you can understand how the clitoris is usually ignored.

With sex toys “cum” preference; pun intended.  Some individuals prefer a toy

softer to the touch; others don’t see the point in a toy unless it vibrates.  This brings us

to the whole point of my essay- the many materials of sex toys.

The basic materials are:

Silicone

Silicone/Rubber Mixes

Thermo-plastic elastomer

Jelly Rubber and Phthalates

Hard Material such as hard plastics, acrylics, Lucite, glass, metal, and ceramic

Let’s start our adventure in the depths of silicone valley.

Silicone toys are soft and smooth to the touch. They are also pliable, and they

come in a wide variety of shapes and colors. Since silicone is a non-porous surface, it can

be disinfected easier then plastic.  As a result, they can be used for longer periods of time

because they don’t harbor germs like other porous materials.  A simple way to clean a

silicone toy is to either boil for 5-10 minutes, pop them in the dishwasher, or wash them

with soap and water.  The most important thing to remember when it comes to silicone

toys is the lubricant that is used with them. Silicone lubes can melt a silicone toy, putting

a condom over a silicone toy when using silicone lube is recommended.  A silicone

toy is also ideal for individuals who have environmental allergies, because silicone is

hypoallergenic.

Next up for discussion is silicone rubber mixes.  Although these toys contain

silicone they are porous and do not have the same care instructions.  One of the benefits of

having a silicone mixed toy is that the material will last longer without tearing.  As with

the silicone toys, silicone lube is not recommended.

Thermo-plastic elastomer, unlike silicone, is slightly porous and cannot be

disinfected.  Basic cleaning instruction in between uses is wash with soap and water,

but in the long run a toy of this material should be used with condoms or replace

frequently to avoid infection or a negative reaction to bacteria.  Similar to Thermo-plastic

elastomer, Jelly Rubber toys are soft, porous and cannot be disinfected either.  Most

sex toy companies no longer carry toys made from this material because it contains a

potentially harmful element called phthalates.  Phthalates are plasticizing chemicals that

soften Polyvinyl Chlorides (PVCs) – plastics that are used in everything from building

materials, tubing, and clothing to shower curtains, and can even be found in food.

Phthalates are also used in soft plastic sex toys.

Toys made from hard materials do not contain phthalates.

The most versatile of all hard material toys is glass.  Glass retains temperature extremely well and requires a

very small amount of lube for a slippery effect.  Glass toys can also be heated or frozen for

an extra sexual experience.  No other material, aside from silicone, easily possesses this option.
With all the scientific achievement the human race has accomplished in the past

several hundred years, it is a great achievement to have such time and effort put into sexual

objects that will be put into hard working fun loving individuals.  Human beings are as

unique and delicate as snow flakes.  Thanks to science, there will always be a specific sex

toy to meet their individual needs.  God bless the human race, God bless sexuality, and

God bless sex toys.

Let’s talk about clitoral stimulation gels.- by Julie

posted: August 24th, 2010

So. Let’s talk about clitoral stimulation gels.

Most clitoral stimulants work by using a cooling element to provide a cold, tingling
sensation to the clitoris, which causes blood flow in that area to increase, which then
enhances sensitivity and leads to a better orgasm. Um… sign me up for that, please.

There are so many different types of clitoral stimulants, but the most popular kinds on the
market seem to be Sliquid Organics Stimulating O Gel, Orgasmix Enhancing Gel, and
Intimate Organics Clitoral Stimulating Gel in Intense and Gentle styles, and we have all
of these in our store!

Orgasmix is a good product; it gets good reviews from people who have tried it. It
does, however, contain an ingredient called propylene glycol, which is considered a
toxic chemical, but only if used in very large amounts. Using a small amount of this
stimulating gel every few days, or even everyday, should not cause harm to you. The
squeeze bottle instructions do say not to rub this gel directly on your clit, but to apply it
directly underneath.  KEEP THAT IN MIND!

Sliquid is a 100% organic and vegan friendly brand – which means no propylene glycol!
The cooling sensation in this gel comes from peppermint oil and menthol. Now, there
is NOTHING wrong with menthol. It is very commonly used in a number of different
products, and has a number of therapeutic qualities. But some women find that menthol
can cause their skin to dry a little bit. This is no different than if you were to forget to
wear your gloves in the bitter cold, and your hands got dry. Your hands aren’t harmed in
any way, your skin is just a little dry. And not everyone will experience this sensation.
I, personally, have used KY Jelly Tingling lube (KY Jelly is horrible for you, by the
way), and I have very sensitive, dry skin and I didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary.
So unless you’re terribly, unbearably sensitive down there, this is a great, safe, organic
product, and you will have no problems!

Alright, this is getting a little long, so let’s wrap it up with Intimate Organics.  This would
be my choice after doing all this research.  Their stimulating gel comes in an intense
version and a gentle version, so nobody is left out!  Even women who are SUPER,
SUPER sensitive can happily use this lube.  And the only thing this brand uses to cause
a cooling sensation is plain ol’ peppermint oil.  The directions on both of these lubes say
to rub DIRECTLY into the clitoris, as opposed to under or around.  That makes me one
happy gal.   J

Buying your babycakes something special…by D’Ara

posted: August 22nd, 2010

I would advise digging deep in order to come up with a gift that she not only
appreciates, but LOVES!!  Roses?  Chocolates?  Can we say cliché?  Now a toy- that’s a gift
that keeps on giving… and giving and giving =)

When shopping for said little treasure, be sure to shop around and PLEASE don’t
skimp on your sweetie pie.  Dropping a little more change goes a long way, and if not for
anything else, your baby deserves nothing but the best.

Consider investing in a LELO, an acronym that stands for Luxury Erotic Lifestyle
Objects- yes LIFESTYLE OBJECTS!!! This particular brand of toys- forgive me-
lifestyle objects- is so hot they are bound to be the object of your loves affection, if not
for their excellent performance then for their sleek and modern design.  It also doesn’t hurt
that these cuties are rechargeable.  That’s right- NO BATTERIES!   Plus, they come with a
one year warranty!

If it is that your baby girl is a bit squeamish when it comes to experimenting
with “lifestyle objects”, I suggest taking the safer, but no less nobler route of showering
your honey with some lingerie!  Classy?  Trashy?  Your choice!!!  But please, please,
please, above all things get her size correct!  There are few things more offensive then
being given lingerie that’s too small, or even more regretfully, too big.  In view of the fact
that you’re going out of your way to spoil your cutie pie in the first place, consider taking
the proper precautions to make sure your gift will be one she’s sure to fall in love with.

After you figure out what her size is feel free to get as creative as possible.  Lingerie comes in infinite amounts of styles, fabrics and colors so you will have loads to pick from. Feel free to mix and match in order to properly concoct they perfect ensemble.

If all else fails, feel free to ask a friendly Cupcake here at Pure Delish for some assistance- they’re sure to get you on the right path and make sure that your gift is a successful one!

Batteries vs. Rechargeable Toys by Jaz

posted: August 22nd, 2010

So what’s the benefit?
It doesn’t take much to explain which one is more beneficial.  Batteries you can
replace over and over again, but with rechargeable, all you need is to charge and
go.  I guess it really depends on you.  I mean ,with batteries you have to spend
money all the time, as opposed to just charging a toy overnight like a cell
phone and go about your business.

So ask yourself this question:
Do you prefer to spend and spend buying batteries whenever they go out
or would you prefer a toy that’s rechargeable and saves you money?  I don’t
know about you but, like many, I prefer to save money.  In this economy right
now it’s definitely best to save when we can, and rechargeable is definitely
more beneficial on that note.  Even if the toy is a bit on the expensive side,
most rechargeable toys are of better quality.  Brands like  LELO, Natural Contours,
SASI by Je Joue and We-Vibe are made of the highest quality silicone, use the highest quality motors, and are all rechargeable.  So once again, which would you prefer?  It all depends on you!!!!

Condoms 101- by Violet

posted: August 1st, 2010

Hi Everyone!

This is your Cupcake-in-Training, Violet! Today we will be focusing on CONDOMS!
Yes, yes, these little fellas are very important our sexual health, not only as
contraceptives, but also for prevention of STDs, and we should all carry at least 1 or
2 with us at all times! Ya never know when the mood will strike and nothing kills
the mood faster than not being ready! Boo! No Glove, No Love! Anywho, I’ll be
going over some of the different types of condoms that are available . Here we go!

We’re going to start off with what condoms are made of:
Latex- The majority of condoms are made from this. Latex is a material made from the
sap of a rubber tree. They CAN NOT be used with oil based lubes (Vaseline, baby oil,
cold cream etc.), since the oil breaks down the latex. Unfortunately some people have an
allergy to latex, if you are one of these people, have no fear, there is hope! Which brings
us to:

Polyurethane- This kind of condom is made from a type of plastic. It is latex free. It is
allergy free, so it’s safe for latex sensitive people. It’s odor free, thinner than latex, for
that natural feel (a plus!) and can be used with water-based and oil-based lubes, double
yay!

Polyisoprene: This is a natural rubber latex, softer than polyurethane, and it’s also thin for
that natural feel.

Now on to different types:
Thin: These type of condoms are about 20% thinner than regular condoms, so they
feel natural, as if you’re wearing nothing at all! They come in the above described
materials. Don’t be fooled by the fact that they’re “thin”, they are very durable and can
keep up with your shenanigans! Seriously, they are sturdy and hold up great! You can
try Extra Sensitive and Avanti BARE by Durex brand, Skyn and Ultra Sensitive by
LifeStyles brand, Kimono Brand, ThinTensity and Trojan Supra by Trojan brand and
BareBack brand.

Textured: For that extra Oomph! These condoms are specially designed to provide extra
stimulation to one or both partners. They can be studded all around, ribbed throughout or
on the base, contoured for a great natural fit, twisted for her pleasure (for all those hidden
spots J), each texture provides a different and awesome sensation! Trojan, Durex,
LifeStyles, Pleasure Plus (a great brand and favorite among condom users!) Kimono,
Rough Rider all have different textures for their condoms.

Special: Now there are some condoms that do a little extra than the others I’ve mentioned
before. For example warming condoms! You’ve heard of warming lube, well this is
basically the same thing. Trojan has a line of condoms called Shared Pleasure that warm
up with body moisture, and feel awesome for both partner, which is always fun! Another
by Trojan is Fire & Ice, this is a dual action condom. It warms AND tingles! Ooh la la!
If you’re in a frisky goofy mode, Night Light brand, has a Glow-in-the-Dark condom!
How fun is that?! These condoms are the only of their kind and are absolutely safe to use,
made from latex and go under the same rigorous testing as the leading brands. Just place
under a light for 30 seconds and you’re good to go!

Well, there you have it! That is just a taste of the many types of condoms available!
Of course there are a ton more, but we’ve only scratched the surface today. I hope that
you’ve learned a little something about condoms today. As a friendly reminder, you can
purchase all of the above mentioned condoms and MUCH more here at Pure Delish! So
remember keep it safe and have FUN! Thanks guys!!

Everything you wanted to know about CONDOMS! by Jaz

Need more headroom?
Allergic to latex?
Which ones are the best for these certain purposes?

So when it comes to finding the right condom, I know as well as anyone that it can
be tricky to figure out which one to get for certain needs.  Well, let’s touch on that
subject and go through what condoms are best for those certain needs and how they
are better for those needs.

So many to choose from, but “what condoms do what” is the question.  I’ve
come across a lot of people who mainly ask about two types: condoms with more
headroom, and non-latex.  These seem to be the hardest to figure out.

For those seeking more headroom, so far the best on the market seems to be the
Pleasure Plus.  This condom was developed to increase stimulation for both partners.
How it works: with a roomy pouch, during activity the pouch moves back and
forth stimulating both partners, while restoring sensation unlike a regular condom.
Sounds like the best fit, according to positive reviews- it is preferred 8 to 1 over the
leading condom.  With a width of 53mm and length of 180mm, that’s as big as it gets
next to the famous Trojan Magnum XL.

For those seeking Non-latex, I know there’s not that many on the market, but
luckily there are at least three to fit your needs.  I’m talking: Durex avanti BARE,
Lifestyles SKYN, and Trojan Supra.  Now, what’s the difference you ask?  Well
there are two similarities to all three. They’re all Non-latex and thin condoms.
The only difference is Bare and Skyn are both Polyisoprene, and Trojan supra is
Polyurethane.  Now what do those terms mean?  Polyisoprene- is just another option
for those allergic to latex or polyurethane.  A synthetic version of latex yet won’t
cause the same symptoms most allergy sufferers go through.  Polyurethane- is a
type of plastic.  Usually polyurethane condoms are thinner, stronger, and cause less
constricting than latex condoms.  They also increase sensitivity and transmit heat
better to increase pleasure.

Now that you have a little inside knowledge, I’m sure you still want to know what
the best is.  Truthfully, neither one is better than the other.  Depending on your
needs, depends on which one you pick.

So, above all, I leave you with the biggest advice of all.  Stay safe with what
works, and what’s good for your health.  You’ll thank me later. Lol!!!

Water based lubricant or silicone lubricant that is the question. by Alex

posted: July 30th, 2010

For water based lubricants, I personally like Sliquid’s line, which are all glycerin
and paraben free.  For those that don’t know, glycerin is a preservative, it turns into sugar,
and then to yeast, which is obviously not a very good thing, especially for women who
are prone to yeast infections.  Parabens are also preservative chemicals that are put into
a lot of lubes, and it is used primarily for their bactericidal and fungicidal properties.

Sliquid also carry a special line of vegan organic lubes, all of them water based, plus one hybrid, water based + silicone, called Silk.  This is the one I recommend the most.  It’s a good choice if you’re looking for something that feels more like the real thing.

Some more facts about water based lubricants are that they, unfortunately, dry out faster because the skin absorbs the water, then leaving behind a sticky residue. So if you’re in the mood for nice and safe water based lubricants, Sliquid is the way to go. If you can’t get your hands on any, I recommend always reading the ingredients on the labels of any product.

Silicone would be my personal choice in lube, its silky smooth and leaves your
skin feeling soft, no sticky feeling.  It can be used in the shower, pools, and jacuzzis.  They are glycerin free, and there is no need for constant reapplying.  Pjur is an excellent silicone lube.   It’s hypo-allergenic, safe to use with latex condoms, and contains the highest grade of medical ingredients to create one of the best personal
lubricant on the market.  Some more fun facts about Pjur, it leaves your skin moisturized!  It is
oil-free, fat-free, fragrance free, non-pore blocking, contains no preservatives and it’s an excellent
latex conditioner so its safe to use with latex condoms. Pjur also has a bodyglide for women.  This one is specially designed for our oh so sensitive skin- same safe ingredients, but more desirable for women.  Wet also makes a silicone
lube called Wet Platinum that is extra concentrated, so there is less need for reapplication, does not dry out,
leaves your skin moisturized, and is great for full body massage!  It’s 100% silicone and doctor
recommended.

There are a few things to be careful with when using silicone lubricants, if you
own any toys made of silicone, water based is the safest way to go.  The reason for this
is that the two silicones will eat away at each other, completely destroying the material.

Hey its Liz again I was just reading Alex’s blog and my birthday is in the summer too!!!!

And the cute little butterfly moves its little ears and does all kind of awesome stuff that’s sure to make you happy, and for only $28! We also got in the nomi tang “better than chocolate”($77) its small discreet and quiet it looks like a mouse so u could sit it at your computer and no one would even notice. It reminds me of an itouch, because to decrease and increase, it is at the slide of your finger it also has pulsations that’s at the tip of your finger this toy is so awesome it has been added to my list of investments. So now my list of investments are, 1.we-vibe ($100) 2. Sasi ($150) 3. The cone ($123) 4. The oh mi bod ($77) & ($150) 5. Wow! ($120) 6. Lelo Lilly ($118) 7. New staff, new toys…by Alex 4/13/2010

posted: April 13th, 2010

It’s Alex finally dropping a line! So I’m sure you’ve all heard that we got some new cupcakes in training! I’m so excited to see how these girls do, we’ve had so many come and go, me and Liz are the only ones left :( but that’s ok! Now we have 3 new ladies working with us. They’re really sweet, smart, and full of great energy.

I was reading Liz’ blog about how summer is coming up, I cant wait! My birthday is in the summer so I want to do something really fun, I know I’m probably gonna buy a bunch of sexy lingerie, shoes, bathing suits, stockings, and all sorts of stuff! I love going shopping for new clothes, it’s the best, like today before coming into work, I went into this clothing store across the street, I swear they have the CUTEST stuff, for such good prices, today I got this dress that I’ve been eyeballing for a little while. If I ever see anything that I really want, I have to get it because otherwise it will be gone the next day. So I was happy that they still had the dress I wanted, its super cute, it’s black with off white fabric stripes here and there, and it has cute little buttons with anchors on them! I’m such a sucker for anything sailor related. I was looking through some new catalogs we got in, and omg, Demonia came out with the hottest shoes ever, they got some sexy zombie heels, steam punk inspired shoes, and some other really cute flats. I want them…

So any who! I’m excited to know what our next party will be about, I know last time we all talked about an 80’s Karaoke party, which sounds like a blast cuz I LOVE 80’s music.

On to the next subject, we got some new toys in. We got some more of the real looking ones, and pretty soon we expect to be bringing in some black ones too. We got this real cute one called the Eager Beaver ($34), it’s like the rabbit, except it’s a beaver sticking its tongue out, and the part that you insert looks like a little totem pole, it’s really cute, I like this one because its nice and simple, very affordable for anything that has the same aspects as the rabbit and it’s pretty powerful too. The Wave Maker ($46) is pretty different looking from some of the vibrators we carry, the cool thing about this one is that it has 3 bullets, one on the head, mid shaft, and at the base of the shaft, each bullet vibrates at different times to give a cool thrusting effect, you can leave it in and feel as if its really thrusting into you, which is pretty awesome. It even comes with free undies. The Pure Bendie ($45) comes in lavender and baby pink, it has the real feel, but not the real look, its really soft and squishy, it bends any way you want it to, and it has 10 functions.

Changes….by Liz 4/13/2010

posted: April 13th, 2010

Hey everyone so I was just looking at this blog and we started writing this in December- how crazy, it doesn’t feel like its been this long. Years go so fast and we don’t even realize it till we think about it, like I can remember 06 like it was last month. so much has happened and I haven’t thought about all of it. Like for here for example, I think of how far I have came from when I first started, how many girls I have seen come and go and how my only co worker left when I started (Alex) has changed from when I first met her. At first she was just this little quiet girl, and now she’s this crazy fun energetic person who I love so dearly. she’s like a little energetic ball that’s just running around. She can always put a smile on my face no matter how sad, mad or anything I am. To say the least she’s freaking awesome. But seriously when u think about it summers only 2 months away. I am personally excited because I am going to go tan yesss!

But ill have to say that my favorite thing about this store is watching it change. like we went from having just a little round table of toys to a whole freaking wall and that happened over night. I came in to the store walked in and was all “WOAHHHH that woke me up”. Also the change from Halloween to just the regular store that’s the craziest change it looks like a completely different store. That’s what I am looking forward to is to see the change happen because it blows my mind how different this place looks when its Halloween time. But until then we still have our regular store and we are still having our penthouse sale. stuffs crazy so much cute stuff not enough time to buy it all so come on down and come grab your little piece of the cake or should I say CUPCAKE :]

So come visit us and also met our new additions to our cupcake clan well have a great day be back to write again soon <3 Liz
